Frequently Asked Questions

Hi! Good question. My name is Katie Devin Orenstein. I’m a lifelong New Yorker, I have a degree in film studies from Dartmouth, and I work in the theater and film industries here in New York. I’ve been leading tours around the city for over three years, and I have a passion for all things Nora, and celebrating women filmmakers. This tour has no formal affiliation with the Ephron estate, and wishes to uplift her work and legacy with the next generation.

The tour usually runs on the first Saturday of every month, see the ‘upcoming tours’ tab for more info. If you’d like to book for a different timeframe, see the ‘bookings’ tab. The tour goes through the Upper West Side area.

The tour involves a mile of walking, with frequent stops. The middle and end stops of the tour also have seating. There is one steep incline at the final stop of the tour but it is otherwise very flat. If you have a specific accessibility need or other concern, please reach out! Bookings@noratournyc.com.

Tickets for our monthly tours are $40/person, and children 12 and under are free. Private/custom bookings start at $175 for groups of 6 or less, and are $40 for each additional person.

The tour is generally well received by kids aged 10 and up with an interest in this subject, and young children and babies in strollers are of course welcome (and do not require a separate ticket). Children old enough to watch movies but too young for rom-coms might get a little bored. Is your family passionate about another New York-set movie or TV show? Email me at bookings@noratournyc.com, and let’s build something fun!

The tour generally operates rain or shine, year-round. If there is a weather emergency and we have to cancel, you will receive a full refund.

Short answer: YES. Long answer: I started the Nora Tour business because a friend of mine was willing to pay me for this tour for her birthday party! Let me know all about your special occasion and any requests in your booking form, and I’m happy to make adjustments (for example, you want an abbreviated tour as part of a longer bachelorette day of activities, or you want a recommendation for a restaurant to go to after, etc etc.)

That’s ok, life happens! Email at bookings@noratournyc.com. Cancellations more than 24 hours in advance will receive a full refund. Less than 24 hours in advance you will be charged a $15 cancellation fee.

The tour mostly focuses on locations from You’ve Got Mail, When Harry Met Sally, and Heartburn, as well as locations from Nora’s real life. We briefly bring up Julie & Julia and Sleepless in Seattle, but do not visit any locations as there are none nearby. If there is a location that you are particularly curious about, please reach out and I’ll see what’s possible!

Unfortunately, Katz’s Deli is on the Lower East Side, about 30 minutes by subway from the Upper West Side. I would be delighted to offer you detailed directions as well as an explanation of their unique and archaic ordering system, if you would like to visit. Note that lines can be very long during peak tourism times/weekends.
-
The tour also discusses architecture, the history of New York City, urban design, journalism, and New York women’s history. There’s a lot of interesting gossip and moviemaking trivia, even if they’ve never seen the movies. Elementary school-aged children with no interest in any of these subjects will probably be bored.
